Barbara A. Niland, Corporate Vice President, Business Management, and Chief Financial Officer

Barbara A. Niland is corporate vice president of business management and chief financial officer of Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII).
Named to this position in 2011, Niland is responsible for directing the business strategy and processes in support of business growth and profitability goals. She also has responsibility for corporate business management functions such as investor relations, treasury, internal audit, contracts, accounting, financial reporting, planning and analysis, rates and budgets, and business development. She also provides oversight for segment business management, contracts, and estimating and pricing.
Prior to this position, Niland served as vice president of business management and CFO for Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding (2008-2011) and Northrop Grumman Newport News (2004-2008) and was responsible for directing the sector's business strategy and processes in support of business growth and profitability goals. She also had responsibility for sector business management functions such as contracts, estimating and pricing, accounting, financial reporting, planning and analysis, rates and budgets, and program cost control.
Earlier, Niland served as vice president of finance and controller for Northrop Grumman's Electronic Systems sector. In this role, she was responsible for financial planning, financial accounting, government accounting, engineering and manufacturing finance, international finance and the business management homeroom functions.
Niland began her career at Westinghouse (later becoming Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems) in 1979 and held a number of financial and business management positions at company locations, serving as business manager for a number of space systems programs and later being named program director of business management for space systems. Niland was promoted to vice president of finance and controller for Electronic Systems in 2002.
Niland earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Towson State University and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Maryland University College.
