Our Co-op Opportunities

HII Cooperative Education (Co-op) programs give college students the opportunity to combine the knowledge learned in the classroom with practical work experience. By gaining valuable work experience in Co-op programs, participants are able to better evaluate their future career opportunities. Co-op assignments are based on a candidate's goals, company's needs, and are posted to the Careers website intermittently throughout the year.

Program Requirements for Ingalls Shipbuilding:

  • Background check, drug screen and physical
  • Major must be directly related to work performed at Ingalls Shipbuilding
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (based on 4.0 scale)
  • U.S. persons
  • Offers Co-op programs in Industrial and Quality Engineering

Program Requirements for Newport News Shipbuilding:

  • Background check, drug screen and physical
  • Major must be directly related to work performed at Newport News Shipbuilding
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (based on 4.0 scale)
  • U.S. citizenship

Summer Internship Opportunities

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) offers summer internship program opportunities with HII Corporate, Ingalls Shipbuilding and Newport News Shipbuilding that provide meaningful employment to college students enrolled in degree programs that match the company's needs. HII considers its internship programs vital pipelines for fueling professional talent.

Ingalls Shipbuilding

    • For college students enrolled in Bachelor or Master's degree programs that match company needs in the following areas: Engineering, Business, & Information Technology

Newport News Shipbuilding


Program Requirements for All Programs:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • U.S. Citizenship OR U.S. Persons (For Ingalls Shipbuilding only)
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (based on 4.0 scale) - Official transcripts will be required
  • Background check, hair follicle drug screen, and physical
  • Participants will work full-time, 40-hours per week, for a minium of 10 weeks during the summer months
