Summer Internship Opportunities

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) offers several summer internship program opportunities with HII Corporate, Ingalls Shipbuilding and Newport News Shipbuilding that provide meaningful employment to college students enrolled in degree programs that match the company's needs. HII considers its internship programs vital pipelines for fueling professional talent.

Ingalls Shipbuilding

      • For college students enrolled in Bachelor or Master's degree programs that match company needs
      • Note: We will start accepting applications for our 2015 internships in late November

Newport News Shipbuilding

  1. Pipeline Internship Program
    • For college students enrolled in Bachelor or Master's degree programs in the following areas: Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Technology
    • The goal of this program is to offer participants full-time employment once they have graduated
    • Must be a rising Junior or Senior
    • Note: We will start accepting applications for our 2015 internships in late November
  2. Student Development Program
    • For college students enrolled in Bachelor or Master's degree programs in the following areas: Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Law or Materials Science

      Please Note: Only Environmental Engineering candidates accepted. All other Engineering majors should apply to the Pipeline Internship Program.
    • The goal of this program is to offer participants meaningful temporary employment
    • Must be a rising Junior or Senior
    • Note: We will start accepting applications for our 2015 internships in late November


Program Requirements for All Programs:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • U.S. Citizenship OR U.S. Persons (For Ingalls Shipbuilding only)
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (based on 4.0 scale) - Official transcripts will be required
  • Background check, hair follicle drug screen, and physical
  • Participants will work full-time, 40-hours per week, for 10 weeks during the summer months

 


 

Our Co-op Opportunities

HII Cooperative Education (Co-op) programs give college students the opportunity to combine the knowledge learned in the classroom with practical work experience. By gaining valuable work experience in Co-op programs, participants are able to better evaluate their future career opportunities. Co-op assignments are based on a candidate's goals, company's needs, and are posted to the Careers website intermittently throughout the year.

Program Requirements for Ingalls Shipbuilding:

  • Background check, drug screen and physical
  • Major must be directly related to work performed at Ingalls Shipbuilding
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (based on 4.0 scale)
  • U.S. persons
  • Offers Co-op programs in Industrial and Quality Engineering

Program Requirements for Newport News Shipbuilding:

  • Background check, drug screen and physical
  • Major must be directly related to work performed at Newport News Shipbuilding
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (based on 4.0 scale)
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Offers Co-op programs in Information Technology
